Wow.

Guys, do really lousy teams have blogs dedicated to them?

This is for real.

TORRE

What kind of danger do you think Joe is in? And how many of you support his prompt termination? I definitley don't want this to explode into our third TAJT blog free for all, but are there any thoughts on Torre so far this season and his future?

we look TERRIBLE

It's early. We all recognize that, and I would guess that the Yankees have not had a good April since 2000. We've been plagued by injuries, and it won't be fair to judge this team until we've got Pettite, Mussina, and Wang going for a few weeks.

But unlike past years, I'm just not sure there is enough in that rotation to even win the wildcard. If we assume the likes of Karstens and Rassner are stopgaps that are not going to perform on the big league level, then we're talking about Hughes, Igawa, Pavano or a trade.

We need to get 20 wins out of the back end of the rotation. Can we get 10 from Igawa? 10 from Pavano? I highly doubt it. If we're playing to win this season, it maybe be time for Hughes. It may also be time to think about trading a Cabrera and Proctor, reactivating Bernie, and bringing in a 190 innings fourth starter.

I mentioned back in January (I checked the blog) that I felt like we were building for 2009 this offseason. It's looking that way.

Am I panicking?

Hughes to Start Thursday

I really don't think that this is a good idea. I know they have pitchers hurt, but it seems like a panic move, especially with Wang coming back. Why bring him up so early? Either they are going to have to send him back down again, which may mess with his head, or they have to keep him up all season. He may be good enough to stay up, but if he's up his innings can't be managed like they are in the minors and you end up risking the best prospect on the team.

TAJT and Farnsworth

As much as I love--nay, worship--Joe Torre, there has always been one aspect of his managing style that I don't care for. He obviously plays favorites, and once he does, it's very difficult to get out of his doghouse. There have been many examples over the years of the front office bringing in players and after some early season failures Joe never gave them another opportunity to get in a groove. This season, he obviously does not care for Farnsworth to the point where he's running Proctor, Vizcaino, and Bruney into the ground. In his defense, the entire bullpen is overworked, and Kyle has pitched in 8 games. But going to Proctor, Vizcaino and Mo in the 8th inning on Friday seemed like a sleight to me. And we're absolutely going to need Farnsworth to pitch well this season.

Of course, I could be way off. Perhaps Farnsworth just can't pitch two days in a row (he had pitched Thursday), and I know Farnsworth has said publicly that he doesn't not like to pitch beyond one inning. So Torre is right to question his mettle, but I hope Joe doesn't give up on him, because I think we'll see a self-fulfilling prophecy. I know some of you guys are more into the shame game to motivate, but I think Farnsworth, like Pavano, is a guy whose psyche is fragile and needs a vote of confidence, especially because he's struggling.

To change the subject, I do not have a working television, so I listen to all my games on XM radio. Tonight the game was on ESPN radio, and the broadcast team of Dave Campbell and Dan Shulman are simply excellent. Shulman is just a terrific play by play guy. His excitement at a crucial moment is palpable, and it comes across as completely genuine.

As for Campbell, he's a straight shooter (e.g. tonight he was talking about Manny's reputation as a flake) as maybe because he's not a former player, he doesn't use any of the hackneyed cliches.

Anyway, I just wanted to give those guys some credit.

Gary Sheffield Haiku (as told by Anna Benson)

The Sheff ain't cookin'
So says Joseph Marcavage
But it's still April!

Take a look at Gary Sheffield's line:

AVG: .119
R: 10
HR: 1
RBI: 5
OBP: .308
SLG: .186
H/AB: 7/59

What a moth.

Alex Rodriguez The New Closer

6-2 lead against the Green Sox and....and....and.....the precious bullpen blows it. If only the Great Alex Rodriguez could pitch. He's now going to come out of the bullpen? Can he win MVP and Cy Young Award?

Someones needs to save the team. Time to make the call to Moosic. Or make some trades. Matsui and Damon for Andruw Jones. Pavano and Igawa and the Brooklyn Bridge for Johan Santana.

Alex Rodriguez for President!

A-Rod AGAIN!

Another walk-off HR. This guy is spectacular.

Not that any of us care much, but...

...this is a very strange and desperate move, and it's the perfect excuse for managment to fire a Charlie Manuel who seems to be quickly losing it...

Welcome, Chase Wright. Read all about it.

Bad luck or Bad Planning?

The Yankees pitching staff is in tatters. Read about it here.

I said in the off-season that it didn't seem to me that the Yankees were building to win this season. We traded Johnson for Pettitte, which was a wash, and that was about it. We had a bunch of question marks that we were hoping turned out our way, and they haven't so far.

This is no surprise.

I Hate George King A Lot

I don't know how many of you read the New York Post regularly, but George King is the Yankee beat writer. It's shocking how far a mediocrity can get in the world of journalism, and this is case in point. King is big on New York bravado, but very light on analysis or even clever writing. Today, as he does every day, he referred to Pavano as "The American Idle." This was a funny pun the first couple times he used it. Now, after about 50 uses, it's hackneyed and just idiotic. I love how no talent hack jobs like King think that someone like Pavano has to "earn" their respect before they will write something positive about them. If I saw George King on the street, I'd spit on his shoes. The guy is a worthless louse. He brings nothing to the table.

Alex, Welcome To NY

It seems like each "new" Yankee has to have that one moment that puts them over the top in the hearts and minds of Yankee fans. Remember Hideki Matsui's "rookie" Opening Day Grand Slam back in 2003? Or Jason Giambi's extra-innings home run a few years back during an on-again-off-again rainy game? Or Roger Clemens' brilliant Game 4 against the Braves in the '99 World Series? Alex Rodriguez may have just had his "Yankee moment" yesterday with his walk-off Grand Slam. I won't wax poetic about it, but the joy felt by players, fans and those guys selling T-shirts outside of the stadium must have been electric in The Bronx. If you watched the game on TV, you would know what I'm talking about. If you were some sanctimonious luddite like Mr. Steiner, who relies on Western Union for his box-scores, then... well then you missed a truly inspiring moment.

Get a TV Steiner!

Dice K and the Lousy Yankees

What's this blog worth if not to completely exaggerate our misfortunes and the oppositions' victories?

Yesterday, Dice K looked like an ace, better than every Yankees starting pitcher. Pettitte, on the other hand, looked like hammered shit.

We're finished.

I have returned!

Okay, you're probably saying to yourself "I didn't even notice you were gone, Adam" but I want to emphasize to those of you who were in doubt, I am committed to the enduring excellence of this blog. First, I would like to thank all of you keepers of the flame. While I was battling depression, obesity and female rejection, you men were fighting the good fight like true warriors. You fellas don't take the bad days off. I salute your courage and tenacity.

I know, I know- I am a moth. But a fresh calendar of 162 games is the perfect time to reclaim one's innocence and start a clean slate. Are you all ready to join me on the path to redemption? Let's baptize ourselves with the clean water of this new baseball season. Amen.
