A-Rod Trade Rumor #283

This is what our winter will look like-- daily A-Rod trade rumors. Today, I have one involving the Chicago White Sox, which alleges A-Rod could be traded for Joe Crede (a Steiner fave) and Freddy Garcia, an overpaid boob. Still, Garcia is an upgrade from Randy Johnson (I never thought I'd say those words). Discuss.

That would be a bad trade. His good season notwithstanding, Joe Crede is not a good hitter. I urge you all to take a look at his below average career numbers before the 2006 campaign. While Freddy Garcia is a solid pitcher, he is not more than a three for the Yankees. As say thumbs down.

I agree 100% on a thumbs-down here.

Wait a second fellas -- you are looking at this in a way that has got us into trouble in recent years. Even if Crede gives you even close to what he gave the Sox offensively this year he is arguably the best defensive third baseman in the American League. We won championships with Scott Brosius because of his defense. Garcia is not a number 1 but would be a serviceable number 3. Sign Zito and that is a formidable rotation. I would say if the Sox threw in one of their arms in that bullpen we could make a deal like that.

We all know of Arod's explosive potential. We forget he was the MVP two years ago. We have to determine a few things.

Will his defense get better at third base? Is it better when he's hitting the ball well?

How much negativity does he really bring to the clubhouse? Enough to merit getting a much lesser offensive player like Crede?

How much of a distraction is he to other players? And what style of players does he distract most? Veterans? Youngsters?

He was a very good third baseman last season. I think his problems over there were directly tied to his hitting and clubhouse problems.

We can't know what goes on in the clubhouse, unfortunately. But I have to believe he was a distraction, probably more so to veteran players like Giambi and Jeter who resent his aloof attitude. If we keep him, Torre and Jeter and the other veterans must address this. But I think it can be addressed. A-Rod is not a bad person. I think if the guys change their attitudes A-Rod can be reached. But, and I forget who wrote it, someone made a great point in a column about Jeter not rising to the occasion on this. Jeter could have made all this go away and the fans would have given A-Rod a break. So I blame Joe and Jeter for some of this. And I think that with a new attitude all around A-Rod could be MVP again next year.

A-Rod is not a bad person but he IS an asshole. A spoiled brat who refers to himself a "biracial" and "handsome" and is so oblivious to his surroundings that he makes stupid statements like those I've quoted above where he should be keeping his mouth shut and worrying about baseball. I really can't stand hearing him talk anymore, I hope a trade happens sooner than later.

We can speculate until the start of next season, but I'm a firm believer that ARod will stay. If the Yankees are going to make any moves, they will involve the front office. And I also think Cashman is safe.

ARod is an asshole. No quesiton about it. He distracts people, loves himself, and brings his problems to the field. But how can the Yankees let him go! He is the most talented player in today's game. Who knows, by the end of his career we could be saying he was the most talented ever.

If the Yankees are smart they will keep ARod, dispose of some of the people he can distract, and take a different approach to dealing with him this spring.

I partly blamed jeter for this mess. He doesn't understand that the A-rod situation detracts from his own great career and he has to get over the fact that arod dissed him esquire! when arod was 26 years old. Its not really that big of a deal.
That said, even if jeter and arod become best buddies, I'm not sure the yanks are the favorites in the AL for the coming years. Detroit and minnesota are going to be good, chicago and boston can rebound, and anaheim and oakland are always hanging around. And mariano is aging. Looks pretty bleak to me

Garbo, I agree with all of it, except with Jeter being mad about the article. I do think he needs to step up here, and I do think the tides are rising in the American League. We saw that this year, and it's not going to change anytime soon. And we've also seen that bringing in the high price free agents don't win make. Adam, feel free to correct my Yodaism.

Asking Jeter to act more magnanimously towards the team is like asking Torre to be more fiery in the clubhouse. People don't change when their situation has been set for so many years. Torre and Jeter are as immovable as the pillars that hold up the Stadium. When you come to the Yankees, you need to know how to navigate the terrain. A-Rod is paid a lot of money to not suck. He has to keep up his end of the bargain. He's a two-time MVP, not some farm-hand that just got called up to the majors. Enough making excuses!
