Betemit?

This guy isn't bad--he's got a .800+ OPS, in the national league--but why? We have Giambi coming back next week who will either play first base or split time with Damon at DH, putting a good bat on the bench either way. We hae Andy Philips who has played very well--so well that he's now a member of War Powers. And we have Cairo, who always plays well. And, we traded Proctor, who, while not great, is far better than Farnsworth.

I guess it's time for Joba and Chris Britton to make their move. That's got to be what Yankees Co. is thinking.

But I don't care for it.

Brush with (Hopefully Future) Greatness

I have to share with my fellow Yankee obsessed bloggers what happened at Flashbacks in Scranton last night. For those of you who don't know, Flashbacks is a 70/80s themed dance club where I work as a doorman. I was checking IDs at the door when a group of tall athletic looking guys comes in. One of the first ones in hands me a Nebraska drivers license with the name Joba Chamberlain on it. I had never seen his picture before, so I said "As in Joba Chamberlain from the Yankees?" He just said "Yeah." (As I thought about it afterwards, how many Joba Chamberlains could there be?) He was followed by Jeff Karstens, Chris Britton, T. J. Beam, Eric Duncan, Ben Kozlowski, and a couple other guys from the local Yankees. I was waiting to see if they had an attitude but they all seemed like pretty decent guys who just wanted to have a couple drinks and have a good time. As a Yankee fan, I was so excited. The funny thing is that 99 percent of the crowd had no idea who they were. I was dying to talk to them but I didn't want to be the annoying dorky fan guy bothering them when they were just trying to have fun. I really wanted to ask Chris Britton why he hasn't gotten more of a chance with the big club, but he left before I got up the nerve to talk to him. Eventually I did talk to Joba and he was such a nice guy and very humble. I also spoke to Karstens and he was also very cool. They said they really liked the bar and they would keep coming back so hopefully I'll get to talk to them again.

Trading Deadline, How About Good Moves This Year?

This maybe old (at top to) new but it's brief and nobody else is posting so deal with it.

Alex Rodriguez maybe in line for another $200 million contract
Posada will be waiting until the end of the season to negotiate
Andy Phillips is the answer at 1B, pack you bags Mienkietwicz and Giambi. Your services are no longer required.

Yankees eye Wilson Betemit - but why? It sure can't be his numbers. They suck worse then a whore with no spit. He's hitting .232 10 hr 26 rbi. Career .263 hitter 32 hr 102 rbi.

Jon Garland coming? This ok but his only claims to fame are: being on the Bernie Mac show and winning a World Series, in that order. 4.15 era 7-7 58k in 132.1 ip. Career 4.41 89-75 721 k in 1352.2 ip.

Farnsworth maybe sent to Detroit where he will to only throw a fastball and continue to miss the plate.

Damon maybe sent packing. Maybe the Pirates or some lousy team will take him so A. we never hear what the team does, which leads to B. we never hear if he's still playing.

Kei Igawa, he could drop out of the Yanks rotation with Hughes on the way. What else needs to be said he sucks.

Wil Nieves, designated for assignment Sunday, decided to report to S/WB. Really, where else would he go? It was either AAA or retirement to be a shepherd on Mypos.

Yeah, I know this has been long. So be it. Nobody else is posting. Now if someone posts tomorrow after this gets no comments there will be trouble.

Yankees Making Moves

Man, how about those runs. Sure it's the Devil Rays but come on the team was wicked awesome.

And speaking of wicked awesome how about Shelly Duncan. This guy can be the real deal. How do I know? I don't but he could be.

And there's the other big deal of the weekend. The Yankees acquired catcher Jose Molina from the Angels for right-handed Double-A pitcher Jeff Kennard.

Wil Nieves we hardly knew you.

This team is for real. All those non-believers need to be sent to Siberia. How great is it to be this Shell-sational? You would be Duncan-founded not to get excited now. I Pettitte the fool who doesn't believe that this is going to be amazing. I Cano feel it. Everybody Wang chung tonight everyone have fun tonight.

All in or Fold?

What should the Yankees be thinking right now? Should we be looking to pick up one or two big players in exchange for some of the young talent, or should we call it quits and prepare for 2008?

We're 7 games out of the WC, 9 from Boston. Unfortunatley, we have very few games with either Cleveland or Boston.

Thoughts?

Joe Torre Is A Racist, Might As Well Be The Grand Wizard Of The KKK

Anyone hear this about Gary Sheffield saying Torre was biased against Blacks? He didn't manage them or something to that effect.

Well now Kenny "83 games played in 2004 and batted 9th" Lofton comes out agreeing with Sheffield.

Everyone knows that there's a big I in Sheffield but Lofton's now backing him up. It's just another way of getting attention. Kicking the Yankees while they're down or is there some truth to it? All truth?

I don't think he's a racist. I do think this is Torre's last year.

Reports say the Red Sox will go after Alex Rodriguez. If that's the case maybe the Yankees can move to the NL West.

$30 Million Dollar Man

Looks like Arod is set to bank over 30 mil in 2009 and 2010. Check out the espn article. Let's take some time to reflect on how we feel about this man.

Mr. Steiner, since your venom is the most documented, I'll let you have a crack at it first.

Looking Ahead

What a first half. What unwatchable baseball. This team has sucked the life out of this blog, and I think many fans are just simply bored senseless with this team.

The Yankees stand 10 games behind Boston and 7 behind Detroit/Cleveland/Seattle for the Wildcard. It's obviously a tough road for a couple of reasons. One, we only have 6 games left with Boston, and none until late August (but what great interleague baseball!).

As for the Wildcard, it's tough because there isn't just one team to beat. One of those teams will win the AL Central, but we still need to finish ahead of Seattle and the other. Those two teams and the Yanks being in different divisions, it also means we'll have limited games against them, and zero in the last four weeks of the season.

So the Yanks are in extra trouble, because we won't control our own destiny.

I'd say we're frigged big time.

Edwar Ramirez

The Yankees finally called up Edwar, and he struck out the side (against 3 good hitters). I've been following him for a couple months now, ever since randomly stumpling upon his stats when poking around the Yanks minor league page. They are insane. Check it out.

REPORT: PROCTOR MAY HAVE PILFERED MATCHES

"It's his glove," Torre said. "I don't know where he got the matches. That may be ours, I don't know."
