$30 Million Dollar Man

Looks like Arod is set to bank over 30 mil in 2009 and 2010. Check out the espn article. Let's take some time to reflect on how we feel about this man.

Mr. Steiner, since your venom is the most documented, I'll let you have a crack at it first.

Steiner had a day to respond and obviously doesn't like your post.

Yankees want to negotiate now. Boras says no. Yankees say now or suck it. Boras says the Yankees will be doing the sucking and they'll be paying big time.

So it comes down to will the Yankees shell out big money for Alex? There's other players that will be free agents as well. Will the payroll be $300 million? Will they find any pitchers who can get strikeouts? Will Damon's legs force him to be a bench player? Will Giambi ever return?

The Yankees need Alex's bat. There's getting zilch from CF, 1B, DH. And 2B, RF have been weak. So unless Posada, Matsui, and Jeter can carry another offensive player then whoever plays 3B better be a producer.

I just don't know about A-Rod. It's a no brainer on paper. I just don't think the Yankees can win with this formula. They won four championships and didn't have one player anywhere near A-Rod. So I don't know. I suppose they should keep him, but I would be fine if they let him walk and spent that money on constructing a different kind of team.

Did anyone see Sheffield's latest spout off? I don't think this is about race as much as attitude. It's very possible that Joe cannot manage star players. Perhaps he doesn't know how to handle the egos. Even if Sheff is a flake, there was dissension there, as there was with A-Rod until this season. It's true that it's easy to pick on Torre and the Yankees now because they are down, but I still have a bad feeling about this team and their direction.

Since Luis 'Roid Gonzalez showed Rivera is human with that lucky hit the Yankees have not been the same.
There have been too many moves that seem acts of desperation.

The past few years prove that having all star high priced players does not = World Series win. They also can't expect to find a Aaron Small or Shawn Chacon every year to make up for a ineffective player.

A balance must be reached. Yankee fans demand a winner every year but there has to be a way to get a team together and not a bunch of old millionaires.

This team no matter how many 8-10 game win streaks doesn't feel like they can get the job done.
