Who is our Bill James?

An interesting article from the Wall Street Journal on the Red Sox guru. I like this guy, and I agree with his emphasis on OBP. For instance, I always thought Nick Johnson would be an excellent lead-off hitter, stolen bases be damned.

I think the Yankees operate in a manner almost completely opposite this. I think we tend to hire and fire based on intuition, not hard numbers.

Thoughts?

How about Gene Michael? Could he be the man? He's not doing anything now (though technically he's employed but not utilized.)

I must admit I didn't read the article.

But I wanted to discuss Gene Michael. Why isn't he heard from? He has made some good deals. During Michael's tenure as general manager, the Yankees drafted such notable players as Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and others. Further he traded popular prospect Roberto Kelly for Paul O'Neill whose fiery personnna and play would become a cornerstone for the team.

What has Bill James done? Went on record as saying Pete Rose never bet on baseball - what happened? Rose admitted he bet on baseball.

James is a fraud. Stick is better.

Danny, all I know if that you and I almost got our asses kicked because of Roberto Kelly in 1991 at Yankee Stadium.

That's all I know.
