interesting

Check out the lifetime stats of David Wells and Kenny Rogers:

Wells: 229-148, 4.08, .607 w/p
Rogers: 207-137, 4.19, .602 w/p

What's most interesting is that both of these guys pitched their best baseball after turning 30. You don't think of Rogers as a successful pitcher, but in reality he's been very successful. Andy Pettite will be lucky to finish with those numbers.

Since turning 37 years old, Kenny Rogers is 75-39, with a w/p of .657. I would venture that that is the best performance ever by a pitcher over that age.

Okay, I'm wrong. Since their 37th birthday:

Clemens: 101-43
Randy: 101-42
Maddux: 59-51
Glavine: 47-48

So, besides two of the top ten greatest pitchers in history (Clemens and Johnson), I would say Rogers has had the best late bloom in the history of the game.

Well, the Mets could use a guy like The Gambler now that their playoff hopes are desparate.

Of course, Wells has been a MUCH better big game pitcher, while Rodgers is currently known as a huge choker in big games (just ask Mets fans). However, if Kenny is good for the Tigers this year, it could completly transform his legacy.
