Great Night for Hughes

Now this is why everyone is excited. In a strange way, I'm actually glad he pulled a hammy and will miss about a month. This way, he can be used to pitch more later in the year without overworking his arm. Hopefully, he will only have to throw a few more innings then he did last year. On the other hand, maybe the theory about the firing of the conditioning coaches have merit, because the Yanks are pulling something every day.

Yeah, I agree there's something to be said for conditioning. But geez, a 20 year old kid pulling a hammy? Didn't guys used play through injuries? Who is diagnosing these injuries? Maybe he/she should find a new job.

Haha, Mark, I'm just joking if it's your uncle.

It is sad that players of the before time used to be out of shape, no conditioning, no catering to, drink and smoke like there was tomorrow, and look like your average joe would play every day pitch 9 innings.

Now that it's mainly about money, players stay in shape all year round, get days off for breaking a nail, look like they're heading are being filled helium, inject themselves with everything from steroids to cat urine.

Joe, stop bullying Dodort and Mark.

Dodort, call me a fool, but I'm not happy that Hughes got injured almost 7 innings into a no hitter while we've already got two starters down, are in last place, and have a replacement named Chase Wright.

But hey, at least you're looking on teh bright side.

I said "almost" happy. If I at all trusted Torre not to overwork him the whole year, I'd be right there with you. As it is, I'm more concerned with not pulling a Prior on a player who could lead the staff for over a decade than short term injury woes.

I'm just giving you the business, though we can't have Hughes miss all of May and expect to be much closer to Boston at the end of the month. We needed a real spark, and through seven yesterday it looked like Hughes was it. Our luck has been lousy.

The rotation has not looked this bad since 1992.

At first, I thought all the hammy pulls were just because we have a lot of old goats. Now its clear that something must be wrong with the conditioning. I can't believe that a MLB team would have concerns about this.
