Copyright Infringement?

"Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" will be released nationwide on November 3. Sacha Baron Cohen - star of HBO’s hit comedy “Da Ali G Show,” takes his outrageous Kazakstani reporter character Borat to the big screen. In this hilariously offensive movie, Borat travels from his primitive home in Kazakhstan to the U.S. to make a documentary. On his cross-country road-trip, Borat meets real people in real situations. My question is: Which came first, "Borat" or "The Republic of Tajikistan"?

Leave it to Mr. Mike Critchley to give a man his propers. Tajikistan was born long before this Borat, praise be to Allah.

Umm....

Borat first appeared on Da Ali G show in 2000.

The first Tajikistan email transmission reached our shores, alarmingly soon after 9/11. The following was their first contact with us:

Greetings allies!

I'm just fucking writing to see why no one has responded. We were
once
part of the greatest nation on earth. We have forests, mountains,
leopards.
We don't deserve this. If you do not soon reply and treat the Tajik
people as you treatwewantinNATO others, then you shall all face our
wrath.
I know a man who once killed a snow panda with his bare hands. He's
our
Minister of Malaria, and he's quite capable. If we do not soon receive
a
replysaveusfromrussiaplease, you can rest assured that the territories
controlled by republican forces at this current time (including ground
gained today by an attack of fierce men) will be closed to your troops,
aero-planes, and camels.
Some of you have also expressed concern about our territories
controlled by rebel forces and drug-warlords. Silly folks! I can
assure
you such things are quite normal here. People are happy here! We were
once
a part of the Great Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, if you didn't
know.
So fucking write back!

Sincerely,
Tajikistan
Supreme Country in Tajik/World Coalition against [evil]

Adam, thank you for that clarification. I hope you'll apply those same research skills to your baseball analysis from here on out.

Awhile back there used to be these cheesy patent commericals where they would say something like "Ever hear of Alexander Graham Bell?...How about Eddie Smegakaviwicz?" And then they would talk about how Bell beat Smegakaviwicz to the patent for the telephone by 45 seconds and how you better call and get that patent done NOW.

Well, friends, on this day, just call me Eddie Smegakaviwicz.

PS: Tajikistan funny!

Steiner,

The real question is would you be willing to wear a yellow thong with shoulder straps for the sake of your comedy?

Baron-Cohen is willing to make that sacrifice. That is why he's famous.

Actually, I happen to have a good friend who never calls anymore who is more than willing to expose his genitals for the sake of comedy, but is not famous. So there are no guarantees.

I guess which came first really doesn't matter. What I wanted to get across was that while "Borat" is getting paid and becoming famous, I find that "The Republic of Tajikistan" is equally hilarious and gets only the compensation of our amusement.
