Mariano Rivera

I love him so.

You can't fault the whole Burnett/Molina battery thing after A.J. pitched so well, but I'll do it anyway. It's big not having Posada out there.

This is going to be a great series. And Saturday's Game 2 Yankees watchin' card playin' Stuart v. Caines party should be absolutely legendary.

Be there or die full of regret.

What the hell passive aggressive nonsense are you muttering?

Hats off to A.J. Burnett for not letting that fluke run (it really was) early on take him out of his game.

A-Rod looks bad again. Jeter bunted with two strikes. Matsui homered. This was a strange game!

I don't get the bunt. My brother and I had an all out cursing screaming brawl about whether Jeter did that on his own or Girardi told him to do it. Has anyone confirmed either way?

And I made a typo today and put in steinerwarriors.blogspot.com. Whose the funny guy who made that a secret Pavano hating site???

It was probably me, but I have no recollection of it.

It appeared that Jeter bunted on his own.

Holding the Phillies to 1 run was definitely impressive, just as it was impressive that Cliff Lee held the Yanks to 1 run last night. This is a battle. 7 games it looks to me.

Check out this stat:

"Rivera now has 14 six-out postseason saves. All other closers combined have 11 saves like that since 1996." (From Neyer via Stark.)

Amazing. The greatest pitcher ever. Well, other than Kenny Rogers.

The only caveat to that stat is that he's had more post-season save opportunities than any other closer since 1996 as well. That number boosts the value of his ERA and WHIP for sure (he's been ridiculously consistent in the highest pressure situations) but the stat you mention is one that's built by frequency in addition to talent.

Of course, his regular season stats are a large reason why the Yankees have gone to the postseason so frequently. They should have named the new stadium in his honor. There would be no new Yankee Stadium without Mariano Rivera. He truly is the greatest ever.
