Like Dodort, I typically agree that anything can happen in a short series. But Minnesota is so over-matched. Have we played a team so over-matched since 1996? Maybe the 1998 Padres. As a side note, wow are we all getting old.
The difference going forward is going to be the pen. Coke had a 4.50 ERA, because he does give up the occasional long ball. But I was impressed by his overall numbers -- an opposing batting average of .209 and only three walks per nine innings (not stellar, but not bad for a reliever). And of course add Joba out there and wow. I'd say this is also our best bullpen since 1998.
Mariano and Joba hadn't pitched in a while and needed the work to stay sharp. They've done this with Mariano through out his career, throwing him out for an inning if he hasn't pitched in awhile, even in a blowout. They have a day off tomorrow, so it won't affect them at all going forward.
I agree with Dodort -- the way this schedule is set up, they probably won't pitch consecutive days. And if the Yankees sweep and the other series goes deeper, these guys will be sitting on their brains for a week.

Girardi wasn't too good tonight. Bring in mariano and joba when we need them. Coke and Hughes would have had it handled.

Every team the Yanks faced in 1998 was over-matched. That was the most perfectly constructed group of ballplayers we'll ever see.
