THE GAME'S AFOOT

The Red Sox rotation doesn't look anywhere as nasty with Tim Wakefield and Julian Tavarez bringing up the rear. Read all about it: Papelbon is going back to the bullpen.

I'd prefer having him save 40 than win 15 games in the rotation, but that's me. I don't see how he could be as flawless as he was last year.

I wonder what happened with all the talk about Papelbon's arm not being able to handle being a reliever? Isn't that why he was moving to the rotation?

If he is good again this year in 50-70+ games it will be good for the Red Sox. However, if the starters can't go deep, the pen is overused, then Papelbon won't be as effective even if he does save 40 games.

Taverez as a 4th or 5th starter? Then who is the other guy?

I'm more concerned about Pettitte's back, Igawa, Pavano and Alex being afraid of bees to worry about Papelbon.

The game was briefly delayed in the bottom of the fifth inning when a swarm of bees crossed the infield, sending Yankees fielders scurrying for foul territory to avoid getting stung.

“I’ve never seen that before,” third baseman Alex Rodriguez said. “I was actually pretty scared. It was thick.”

Adam, is your comment considered a return?

Yeah, but in the playoffs, it's much more important to have a good closer than a good 4th starter. You're rotation doesn't need to be as long.

I'm back, Scooter. But for how long depends on many factors beyond our control.
