All-Star Joke

Unbelievable. Mark Redman is an all-star, while Francisco Liriano is not (at this point). Check out their respective numbers:

Redman: 5-4, 5.59
Liriano: 9-1, 1.99

Liriano will probably win the Cy Young (or at least finish second to his teammate, Johann Santana). Redman will be lucky to be on a Major League roster come September. And he's surely the worst "all-star" since Mike Sharperson had the honor of representing the 1990 Dodgers. In fact, Redman may be the worst all-star ever.

It's always amazing how some things that are so universally hailed as idiotic seem beyond change. The "every team gets an All-Star" rule is one of them. The whole thing stinks of Bolshevism, both in its ridiculous "egal" sentiment and its Soviet-like institutional permanence in the face of all good sense.

I agree with Mr. Steiner on this issue. I think the overall mentality should be one that elects the finest players in the league.

The Redman all star selection is an embarassment for baseball and Kansas City alike. Especially since a candidate like Liriano hasn't made it (yet).

I wonder what kind of razzing Redman is taking in the KC clubhouse. If I were him, I would relinquish my spot on the roster, stating that there are those who are more deserved of the position.

What say you gents? Has any player ever refused to play in the all star game for such a reason?

Giambi was also snubbed. His OPS was 100 points higher than Konerko's and he's got 5 more homeruns. It wasn't a travesty, and you'd expect nothing less from the "passionate" young manager of the White Sox, but remember to lift a glass to Giambi the next time you're out in a bar and feeling sorry for yourselves.

Ordinary Guy, I like your analysis and enthusiasm. Are you Mike Critchley?
