Lots of interesting stuff today. I only got to see from the bottom of the eighth by the time I got home from school...but that was the right time to tune in. It was odd to see Jeter pull the ball into the left field seats like that. So often his homers (and hits) are to right field. Also, Bob Sheppard missed the game today after injuring his hip. First time he missed a home opener since 1950! Other factoids from today: Yanks have won 9 straight home openers, Royals have lost 12 straight at Yankee Stadium. What does it all mean? I don't know...but somehow it makes me happy.
Yeah, I saw that Sheppard didn't make it. He says he'll be back, though, maybe by the next homestand. We should all really get out there this year and hear that voice one last time. We'll have to make sure he's on that day, though. They say he's in his 90s.
I can't believe I haven't been to The Stadium since September 8, 2001. Crazy.
Not exactly, though I'm sure my moving to Stroudsburg will present ample opportunity for us to visit the Bronx this August and September!
Sweeney v. Stairs. I love it. What was that story you had told, Mark, about Sweeney saying something about Jesus to the Jewish Stairs? Or was it to someone else? I know Sweeney and Stairs were in there somewhere.
Wasn't there an incident on the pitchers mounnd as well? Something like "Hey, just throw strikes man, the Holy Spirit is with you" or something like that?
What is this moving to stroudsburg? You'll be 5 miles from my momma I can't say that the victories over the royals have filled me with such rapture. Now if we take care of the devil rays, then I'll be excited.

I tell you guys, the best part was seeing grown men in my office fist-pumping and high-fiving one another after they found out Jeter hit that bomb.
This game can drag you down, but then just as quickly it makes your spirits soar. Derek Jeter is special.
Mark, you're kidding right? I hope so, because that's really funny.
Not to take away from a great win. We win one more and that's called a w-i-n-n-i-n-g s-t-r-e-a-k.

I recall Steiner giving me the same advice before I took Amy Tatum out on a date.
Ahh, Amy Tatum and your first kiss. Senior year was fun, wasn't it?
Amy, if you're reading this, looking back I would have done it all differently baby!!!
