New News

According to the NY Post:

  • The Yanks are now pursuing Dan Haren
  • Luis Vizcaino and Andy Philips have declined arbitration or assignment and will not be playing for the Yankees next season
  • The Yankees are shopping Hideki Matsui for relief pitching
Haren is NOT Santana, and I wouldn't give up Melky and Hughes for him. He is, however, under contract for three more seasons at $16.5 million (Santana is asking around $20), supposedly making him a better values. But considering their difference in ability, I don't think that's better value at all.

Too bad for Andy he was a valuable piece to the Yankees.

Cabrera and Hughes for Haren? While an upgrade in pitching, it's a big negative for defense. Would Rowand be a possibility?

Trade Matsui why they can get something for him. Not like anyone would take Damon so Matsui must go.

Perhaps Yankees get Haren, treat '08 as a rebuilding year, go after Santana next year if not signed.

Mussina, Giambi, and others come off the books.

Nobody is going to deal for Santana this offseason without a guaranteed extension. The Yanks are out of the Johann stakes. It is time to move on.

Luis V. is Luis Gone. He will be replaced by LaTroy Hawkins.

If anything this is a negative.

Johan's out. Bring in Haren

I'm not so sure. I mean, Hawkins is not good. He's not overpowering. But he does have good control. So many of the Yankees relievers could not be brought in with men on because of control problems.

This is pretty much a push, I think.

I like Haren. Bring in the bastard. He's a Ted Lilly type with better stuff. He could be a two or three.

If you can get Haren for relatively little, of course. But Kennedy or Hughes shouldn't be dealt for him.
