Boston Sucks
What a game tonight! Unfortunately, we are 4.5 games down from Boston, so the division is still out of reach without a sweep. But we are making a statement. To pound Okajima and Papelbon was a marvelous thing.
Glory. I love this team.

A strong statement indeed, and you can see Francona manages his team in a pre-2004 mindset to this day, bringing in Papelbon in the 8th with a 4 run lead. Boston's manager is afraid of the Yankees.
But his team, apparently, doesn't give a shit about the Yankees, as last night's comeback win illustrates. I'm certain that Boston doesn't want to see the Yankees in the postseason, but I think the Red Sox would approach the matchup with less fear than in years past.
I disagree. Certainly, the "psychological" effect of anything that happens in the regular season is limited, but I think this Yankee team is much more hungry than those in recent years past. And I think the Sox have taken notice of that.
We'll see how today goes.
