I think if you're the Yanks, that you're not looking at many teams wanting to do a deal- that is not unless they do part with prospects. That being the case, whatever the Yanks can get at this point, they need. Buehrle is experienced, he's an AL pitcher, so he's already ahead of 2/5ths of the current rotation.
I doubt any deals will get done, that is unless Clemens implodes.
I don't see any room for Buehrle. Clemens starts on Monday, Hughes the following week. In my opinion, Hughes probably wins more games than Buehrle this season (he's only 1 behind as it is).
Trading a top prospect for Buehrle right now doesn't make much sense to me. The Yankees starting pitching has been good, it's the hitting and bullpen that is now struggling. Plus, let's face it, the Yankees are pretty much finished.
If we could get him for Chase Wright, sure, why not? But trading anything close to a top prospect for this guy considering the Yankees slim chances of making the playoffs and their already 5 strong rotation doesn't make sense to me.
I think the "need" to bring up Hughes diminishes with each passing day.
The team is 14.5 games out. That's a borderline insurrmountable hole to dig out from. If ever there was a need to exercise caution with Hughes, this may be it.
I'm all for caution with Hughes. He should not be pushed, wherever he is.
But he's ready for the big leagues. I see no reason he shouldn't take his lumps with the Yankees this season. And if Clemens and Hughes pitch well enough to give us a shot at the WC, all the better.
The only rationale I see for getting Buerhle would be if the Yanks were still in it AND Buerhle would pitch better than Hughes. I don't think either applies, and certainly not both.

I agree with you, but my only question is this: Are the Yankees ready to bring up Hughes? Did they state so?
If they are still thinking Iguana is coming back, and Hughes will spend another year in the minors, then bring in Buehrle.
I wouldn't give up Hughes however. And they'll be room for both of them next year.
