Next Year Goose

While he didn't get into the hall this year, he's getting very close. I'll be shocked if he's not in next year. Everyone seems to realize that he was better than Sutter.

Forget him.

Mattingly and O'Neill should have been elected!

I agree, Dodort. He'll get in very soon.

I was looking at Jim Rice's numbers today, especially in comparison to HOFer Tony Perez, and he's the only other one I think should be in that's close.

Thoughts anyone?

Mattingly and O'Neill

Hall of Fame voters should have their rights taken away by this crime.

Mattingly would still be playing was it not for the back injury.

O'Neill was a corner piece to the '90s dynasty.

Guys I'd like to see in:

Kaat
Blyleven
Mattingly
Rice
Gossage
Dawson

I think Kaat is ineligible no? So how does that work? Can the Old-Timers vote him in? Please explain.

Why does it matter that Mattingly would still be playing if not for the injury? He was injured, and because of it his numbers aren't anywhere near enough. Oneill not even close, Dan.

If you put in those guys on Joe's list, you also have to put in David Wells and Kenny Rogers...

I would definitely consider both of those guys, once they retire. We've had discussions about both, and I think we may have even considered Kenny Rogers the greatest pitcher in the history of the game after the age of 37.

Any thoughts on my question though? Or should I just say the hell with you and google it? Huh, eh? Eh? You bet.

Mattingly was set to have career numbers like Bonds did but his injury prevented that. If it wasn't for the injury then it would be Mattingly going after Aaron.

O'Neill should be in the Hall for his passion alone nevermind his awesome stats.

Kenny "Assault and Battery" Rogers the best after 37? What about Clemens?

David Wells in the Hall of Fame? Come on, Anthony, not happening.

Anyone know if Jim Kaat's HOF are in the Veteran's Comm. hands? I don't see him listed.

Is anyone else surprised that Tom Seaver has the hightest percentage of ballots?

Jim Kaat is on the Veteran's Ballot. Here's the info:

I don't believe Wells or Rogers should be in (though there is a special case for Rogers, him being the greatest pitcher ever after the age of 37). That's my point. But if you put in guys like Kaat, Blyleven, Tommy John, and Tim Leary, then you've got to consider Wells and Rogers.

Danny, by your estimation, we've got to put Fidrych in too. Damn that injury of his.

And Dan, I know you're not completely serious. Comparing Donny to Hank kind of gave it away...

I'm not sure about Rice. I don't think you can compare him to Perez, because it is widely considered to be a huge mistake that Perez is in the hall. Much of the argument for Rice is how feared he was, which I can't really judge because I don't remember seeing him play.

Paul O'Neill is my favorite player ever, but he's not a hall of famer

Rice is so close to 400 home runs (382, when that meant something) and so close to .300 career (.298, which still means something), that I would have him in there. But you're right, Perez is a mistake that we shouldn't make twice, though I think the case for Rice is stronger.
