Goodbye Randy

Well according to Newday, the Yanks and DBacks are far enough along in negotiations that Randy and the DBacks have actually reached agreement on a contract extension for 2008. I guess this was expected. What was a surprise is that the Yanks are now getting Luiz Vizcaino plus prospects in the deal. Vizcaino is a hard throwing reliever with some closer experience. I actually mentioned to Cohen yesterday that it would be nice to get him in return. He will be a nice addition to the bullpen. I like the deal a lot -- thoughts?

Your story contradicts everything I've just been reading.

- The Yankees won't give the Diamondbacks a contract extention negotiating window.

- Padres are offering some kind of major and minor league players.

Either way Johnson appears to be gone this week.

Game On!

I've heard mostly the same as Phil. From what I've read (sorry, can't find the link now), they're getting much better prospects than I thought they would for an old pitcher whose coming off a couple of off years. You have to wonder why Arizona, who won't be good while Randy still has anything in the tank, would make this deal. SD makes much more sense.

Wait, you spoke to Cohen *yesterday*? Then he is alive...

Vizcaino is okay, but I hope we still get a top tier prospect. And if we are interested in Vizcaino, does this once again mean that Proctor may be headed for the rotation? After all, we've already got Farnsworth, Proctor, Bruney, Britton and Sanchez competing for the setup man spots in the pen.

Report of nearly signing Doug Miekhoweverhisnameisspelled.

Now I'm seeing reports it's Randy to Arizona.

Rumor has it, he's going to take over John McCain's seat since McCain is running for President.

According to espn Randy is gone for Vizcaino and three minor leaguers. Vizcaino is your classic journeyman. From espn: "Vizcaino, a 32-year-old right-hander, was 4-6 last season with 3.58 ERA in 70 games. He has a 25-23 career record with a 4.24 ERA in eight seasons, playing for Oakland, Milwaukee, the Chicago White Sox and Arizona." He's not bad, but not better than a middle reliever. I think he's certainly behind Farnsworth and Proctor in the pecking order, and maybe the others as well. You've got to think the Yankees are going to make another trade, maybe for a starter. A deal with both Proctor and Cabrera is now possible that we've added depth in the pen.

I hope the Yankees don't trade Proctor. That would be a mistake for a few reasons.

The guy can pitch in pressure situations, both in regular season games and in the playoffs.

He's unbelievably durable, he had a ton of appearances last season.

He's talented and can start next year if the Yankees need him to.

I think the Yankees have their sights on Roger. I'd like to see him in a Yankee uniform again.
