An important article on the Red Sox new pitcher and his "gyroball."

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Gyroball! Bah, if that's a gyroball I was throwing the same exact pitch when I as fourteen years old. Grip it with your fore and middle finger, parallel and on the outside seam. Under the ball with the thumb (tip touching other seam). Twist your wrist instead of turning it over like a curveball.

It's a fucking slider. Down and in to lefties, down and away from righties (I'm a righty). You throw it a mph or two slower than your fastball. Looks like a fastball but has cutting action across the plate.

Gyroball, yeah, maybe if he's throwing a subway hoagie (ragged).

Joe, you've successfully made me not care if the Red Sox get this Matsuzaki kid. He's another Boras-hyped player. I still maintain that the red Sox are not going to sign him, that they overbid to block us from getting a shot at him. Which is fine. I'm glad we're not going to get him. It's bad enough that we're going to have possibly two rookies in our rotation this season, but then to have a kid from the other side of the globe too? Re-sign Moose, sign Lilly and everything else is cream cheese.

I tell you the Gyroball is real. It ain't no slider. I never saw me a mermaid, and I never saw me a shark eat an octopus, but I tell you the Matsuzaka throws a Gyroball. The ball does something that this man ain't never seen but once, and that was on a clear day. The Gyroball was developed through medical science. It's magic. And if the Red Sox get him, well, they are gonna win the division before we get near it anyhow.

Bottom line: No one is signing this guy because of his Gyroball. If he's as good as Nomo in his prime, and he's probably better, the Red Sox will have made a huge move.

Aye, laddie, that they may have done. But still, $42 million just to ask the kid out on a date? The Red Sox are bluffing, I tell ya! BLUFFING!
