With Sheff hurt and now Matsui possibly done for the season -- This Yankee team will have a tough time making the playoffs. Throw all of this in with inconsistent starting pitching and bullpen and you get yet another dissapointing Yankee team

If Sheffield returns, the Yankees still have more than enough offense to win, and may now go out and get someone to replace Matsui and then Bernie when Matsui returns. The issue was and is the starting pitching. However, Boston's starting pitching has been no better. Schilling has been inconsistent and Beckett, since his third start, has been terrible. Randy and some of the other guys will have to pick up the slack, true, but I still give us better than even odds in the East.

Toronto lurks as well. This division is wide open. We lost a fine player in Matsui. Also, Mo gave up yet another un in an appearance. Let's stop fooling ourselves, the momentum is not with us.

Assuming Damon can play left, I think the Yankees should stick with pitching and defense and pursue Hunter. He's not the hitter Soriano is, but our offense is already potent.

Adam, you're right, the momentum is not with us, but it's mid May.

Yes, Steiner. Remember, I still maintain the division is wide open.. we are absolutely still in the running if not the odds-on favorite. I just get a sick feeling in the pit of my belly when i see us lose to Boston like that...
