Boswell on Soriano

Tom Boswell, of the Washington Post, makes the best case against Soriano.

Money Quote:

"All sports have watershed moments. Baseball is at one now. The public is sick of stars whose bodies are inflated by steroids or whose egos are inflated by wealth. Barry Bonds is stuck with being the poster child for the former. Somebody, presumably Soriano's agent, Diego Bentz, should tell him that he doesn't want to risk becoming the $10 Million Man Who Wouldn't Move."

Mike Winston, aka NY Baltiomoron, provided me with this article. Great stuff, Winston.

This is really something: "But the 30-year-old, who is tied for the worst career fielding percentage at second base in the last 50 years (.971), apparently plays the outfield for no man, team or country."

For one thing, I didn't realize Soriano was that old. Perhaps he's not HOF bound. Secondly, those fielding numbers really speak for themselves.

Soriano got 2 years older a couple of years ago, which is a pretty common occurance among latin american players. I have no sympathy for him. He would immediatly become the worst 2nd baseman in the National League. What is he worried about? He'll be a free agent next year, and it's not like people would forget that he can (arguably) play second base.

Too bad his maturity level didn't jump with his age. The Nationals could be an interesting team with a 3-4-5 of Johnson, Soriano, and Guillen. If all were healthy, that would actually be among the best in the National league.

Sori is not that good!!!! This 3-4-5 is good on paper, but on the field, Sori won't hit anywhere close to .300 this year (if he plays at all). Ok, I'm sorry, we're dropping this topic, ignore me on this issue.

You're setting up an artificial benchmark for his success. If he hits 35 homeruns and drives in over 100 runs, I'm not concerned with whether he hits around .300.
