News: Red Sox sign Juan Gonzalez, Trade Arroyo for Pena

Over the past two days, the Red Sox did what the Yankees have not been able to do: Put together a decent bench. If Gonzalez is healthy enough to even get 150 abs in a reserve role, it will be well worth it. And Willy Mo has pop.

My bet is that we're shopping around for a platoon partner for Bernie Williams by late May.

You may be right about that, though I think that they think Papelbon will play that role of them this season, and they know Nixon will need help in right field.

Our problem is that we don't seem to realize that Bernie is going to need plenty of help in the DH slot.

And what about Wells' possible departure? That leaves Schill, Beckett, Wakefield and Clement. Clement usually lasts the first half and then becomes a BP pitcher. Schill is fat yet effective. Beckett is going to be facing AL hitting for the first time (for a whole season) and Wakefield sucks except when he faces the Yanks (he owns us).

That, my friends, is a mixed bag of kittens.

I think what Steiner (who incidentally withdrew from the fantasy league already) is saying is that we should have signed Piazza weeks ago. I concur.
