I think if he keeps up these antics, he will land himself in our "PROFILES IN SUCCESS" series, here at Mr. Steiner's Warriors.
Sori is Terrell Owens in the making, doing brash and idiotic things in order to get his way. We don't often think about how a guy's reputation plays in a clubhouse, but Sori's has got to be in the toilet right about now. He's refusing to play the field! It's funny, even though I think A-Rod is a twat, he's still far better than Sori in terms of team loyalty.
Sori's selfishness was apparent in little things he did as a Yankee- his refusal to take pitches, his overly aggressive play in the field (running into right-center like he owned the friggin place). Sure he was an electrifying player on an otherwise bland team of professionals, but I'd take boring and loyal over flashy and flaky any day of the week.
I never heard that Soriano regularly ignored signs from the bench to take pitches. He's simply a free swinger. That makes him a worse hitter, but not necessarily a selfish player.
And Soriano's errors come on misplayed ground balls and errant throws, not plays where his back is to home plate.
I'm sorry, gents. I agree that Soriano is a selfish player, but I think you're grasping at straws to try and make his on field performance match his lousy off field attitude.
By the way, it's about time you started commenting on this blog, Mike Winston. Everyone, I give you Mike Winston, the NY Baltimoron. He's a fine soul, though maybe a touch too aggressive in his pursuit of the fairer sex.
Dodort, you've met the man. Washington v. Houston. Clemens v. Patterson (I think).
When I rip on a guy, you're damned right I'm going to grasp at straws when possible. Of course he's not so bad a player as I describe, but the bottom line is that he's stupid, arrogant and overrated.
I remember Soriano in the 2003 WS looking like a fucking moron. He hit just over .200 and struck out 9 times with 5 hits. In the ALCS against Boston jsut before the WS, he hit .133 and had only 4 hits.** Sure, these stats are a snapshot, but being a free-swinger and being a liability are two different things. This guy is not an asset.
The difference between A-Rod and Sori is that Sori will never be voted MVP. In the end, A-Rod will wear a ring first- you can best your sweet bippy on that!
P.S. The PROFILES IN SUCCESS feature on this blog can and will succeed with just the slightest amount of support. A little fucking positive energy from you really makes a difference, just so you know!
Well, yeah, because he's on the f'in New York Yankees and Sori is a National. And A-Rod is better, no fool would disagree. But if Soriano doesn't mess it up, they should both have plaques in Cooperstown someday.
Adam, I can't spend political capital on a cause I don't fully believe in. I spent most of it getting Critchley into our bloody fantasy league. I'm beleaguered, forlorn. I've done all I could do.
Critchley... how is the old chap doing? Is he well? Where is he currently? On holday in Beliz? I'm sure he has many tales of wonderment to share among the group.
Are you taking shots at Critchley? Because, by God, there's things I simply won't stand for. Two clicks of my mouse, Cohen. Two clicks, and you're posting again on the "Good Fight Blog."

There's a great Kurkjian interview you can link to from the article about Soriano. I love that guy.

I can't wait for him to hit .250 this season.
Adam, I think you're the only one anticipating subsequent "Profiles in Success," so have at it.
His refusal to take pitches? His overly aggressive play? You just came up with those this afternoon, and you know it!

Steiner is a Soriano Apologist.

Haha. You don't need to cite stats, they are public domain. Feel free to to link to them in your comments, though. :)
I agree with most of that, which is why I wasn't sad to see him go. Of course, A-Rod had a postseason nearly as bad, but that's another story.

I would like to hear from the man in his own words-- unfiltered by any middlemen (wink wink)
