Yankees News

As for the right-handed hitting first baseman, according to Shea Hillenbrand's representative, the Yankees have an interest. "We are having discussions, and [the Yankees] are one of the teams in the mix," Dan Lozano said. "We aren't as far along as we would like with all the teams but hopefully in the next couple of days we will have something." Initially, clubs believed the 31-year-old Hillenbrand was seeking a three-year deal. Lately the message is he might take a two-year pact. The Angels have an interest, but Hillenbrand lost a potential employer in the Dodgers when they re-signed Nomar Garciaparra.

And that's it right now.

What about Lilly?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I support the idea of bringing in Hillenbrand. And it sounds like Shea is a little nervous nobody is going to take him. Apparently our front office is letting him sweat it out.

But don't make Lilly sweat it out. Each day that passes, his value increases!

Why would we spend all that bloody money to get Igawa and have him work out of the 'pen??? What a foolish waste of money that could have been (and should have been) spent on (DRUMROLL PLEASE!).............

Theodore Lilly.

Well, ok. I'll go with this Pettitte thing. But Lilly would be a younger, more durable solution for our rotation. I worry about Pettitte's arm. I don't take that ERA too seriously, as he was an NL pitcher and the NL was even more weak than usual last season. I watched a handful of his games last season and one thing I noticed was that he ran into high pitch counts and consequently he ended up giving up runs in the later innings. And I really don't like the talk of retirement leading up to his potential signing. The man sounds tired, and he doesn't seem to have a burning desire to pitch. In the pressure cooker that is NY, you need to want to pitch in order to make it work. For a guy with a very respectable career, he may feel he has nothing left to prove and he may take the foot off the pedal at times. I'm not comfortable with him, but he has a ton of upside if he's healthy and he starts the season off right (yet again, his first-halves for the last two seasons were bad, so what are we expecting from him?).

As I've said time and again, what about Lilly?
