What to do?

We've currently got a traffic jam in the outfield, with Bernie, Matsui, Melky, Damon, Abreu competing for four positions, and the possibility that Sheff might join the mix before it's all over.

What would you do?

Leave the kid, take the Jap? I dunno, this is a tough one. Matsui must be in that lineup every single day, especially leading up to the postseason, because he needs the ABs. Unless one of these guys can play 3B, I don't see how we upgrade any of our positions by playing them all.

That's a joke, by the way. You're supposed to laugh.

Matsui should get all the at bats he can manage. Did anyone see the warm welcome he got as he stepped up to the plate last night?

I wouldn't worry about Sheff until he can actually play.

I guess I would split time between Bernie and Melky in the OF. Can Bernie play left?

Abreu stays in right.

I think that, this year and only this year, Melky has to be the one to take a seat. Really, it's between him and Bernie, as the others are a step above, and Bernie is a proven post-season performer (who's having about an equal year to Melky). Melky shouldn't worry though, as he'll be the guy next year and into the future.

Considering offense, I think Dodort is right. Go with Matsui and Bernie. But we really lose a lot in left field sitting Melky. A few weeks ago Torre said Melky was among the best left fielders in the league. Matsui is average at best, and Bernie far below. I think I would go with Melky in left, Matsui at the DH and Bernie off the bench in the post season, where the games are always very close and defense is crucial.

Liriano out for the year. Sad to see anyone hurt, but that's very good for the Yankees in the Division Series.

Minnesota is shameful for pushing that kid back so fast. Now he'll be out all of next season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Did Dr. Andrews examine the young man yet?

Sheffield has been taking batting practice and according the Post seems certain to return. We might as well accept that the team we've grown to love this season is about to revert back to its uber-group form. I'm actually disappointed. We should be ashamed of a lineup that has Gary Sheffield batting seventh and a .340 hitter ninth. It shouldn't even be close.
