Season Saved

According to the New York Post, the Yanks have acquired Sal Fasano for an undisclosed minor leaguer. (lets hop not Philip Hughes). He won't arrive in NY until this weekend however as he is finishing up the filming of Debbie Does Dallas Revisted.

I guess this is an upgrade over Stinnett -- then again sending Torre to the plate with a wet newspaper would be an upgrade over Stinnett so that is not the measuring stick. It does most likely signal the end of Stinnett in Pinstripes.

Sal Fasano spent a dark period of three years out of baseball after being cut by the Angels following the 2002 season. Fasano took a hooker's advice and went to Hollywood, passing around his headshot and a phony list of car commercial screen credits in the hope of landing a minor role in Al Pacino's then-anticipated hit "S1m0ne" (a movie about an computer-generated actress taking the world by storm). Fasano got as far as the studio gates before he was turned away. He later tried to ambush Pacino on the set of "Gigli" which was filming on location in the great state of New Jersey. Pacino was going anticipating divorce papers at the time and beefed up security to an all-time high to protect himself from unwanted summons papers. Fasano, dressed in his Sunday best, was taken as a process server by the set security staff, and was summarily beaten to within one inch of his life. Fasano gave up on acting with his idol, despite his constant utterances: "Man, I *look* just like him! I am Frank Serpico's little brother!"

In 2004, the NY Yankees signed Fasano as a free agent. Fasano never made it to the majors that year, and he was released after the Yanks suffered the crushing loss to Boston in the ALCS.

Now, the Phoenix rises again! Fly, Fasano, fly high above the past, above the beatings taken, the dreams dashed and the prayers unanswered. Today is your re-birth. Make us proud, you career .222 batting juggernaut.
