Win Out

Tonight is certainly a must win, but I think we need to win-out to win the division in regulation.

This is a tough situation, and I hope Joe uses his head come the end. Win or lose the division, the playoffs start Tuesday or Wednesday, and I hope Joe has Wang and Pettitte ready to pitch games 1 and 2, regardless of the division outcome.

The post-season roster is a complete mystery. Here are the 19 sure things, assuming they are healthy:

Posada/Molina
A-Rod
Jeter
Cano
Doug/Giambi
Betemit
Damon/Melky/Abreu
Matsui
Wang/Pettitte/Clemens/Mussina
Joba/Vizcaino/Rivera

Now we need five more pitchers out of this group:

Hughes
Kennedy
Bruney
Henn
Farnsworth
Veras
Ramirez

And another position player: Shelly Duncan? Andy Phillips? Is Villone back?

Duncan? Not after what he did to that poor young Rex Sox fan. He should be put in a corner.

I would add Farnsworth, Bruney, and Hughes. With some of these guys it's like picking your favorite turd. What does it matter if they're all turds?

Actually, I'd probably take Britton, but Joe doesn't seem to have much use for him.

I'd like to call your attention to the pole that resides on the splash page of the blog. I'm the only one who voted that the Yankees would win the Division. There's where I stand on that topic

I would include Kennedy, Bruney, Henn, Farnsworth, and Veras.

Kennedy because he's shown some real poise on the mound. He can get beat up in the early innings but still manage to pitch well. He settles down.

Henn because he's left handed.

Farnsworth......he's better than Ramirez (I guess).

I love Brian Bruney, he was an AI for a time.

I like to look at Veras: tight buttocks.

I think they will take Hughes as the long man. Clemens is scratched again today with his hammy problem, so Hughes may be the 4th starter. I think Joe likes Ramirez so he will probably go. With his contract, I almost think Farnsworth has to go even if he does suck out loud most of the time. Villone could go as the lefty out of the pen with veteran experience winning out over Henn. That leaves 1 spot which could go to a position player if they go with 12 pitchers.

I like Villone. I didn't even realize he was back off the DL. I think Joe will take him. And I agree, Joe seems to like Ramirez, though I'm not sure why. He never seems to get anyone out when I watch him.

The pen is weak, that's for sure. And the starting pitching is shallow. Lucky so is everyone else's.

Wow. After tonight, I think you've got to consider Igawa over Bruney and Ramirez. They ain't got it.

As odd as it may seem, the Proctor trade has hurt us big time. Cairo is a guy I would have loved to have on the bench in the playoffs, and Proctor is better than anyone else out there except Chamberlain. It was a foolish, wasteful trade, and we're short because of it. I'm not saying Scott was great, but he was solid.

I misspoke earlier when I said 12 pitchers, I meant 11 pitchers and 14 position players. Bruney definitely pitched himself out of contention tonight, and maybe Ramirez as well.

Cleveland's got a three game lead in the lost column for home field advantage!

Get ready for Sabathia and Co., boys.
