Helton playing for the BoSox?

Just two seasons ago Todd Helton hit over 30 homers and drove in just under 100 RBI. And this season he could be playing for the Boston Red Sox. The guy is only thirty three years old, turning 34 this season. If this deal goes through we could be in some serious trouble.

Yeah, Helton's been hurt the past couple of seasons on and off, but STILL, the guy has had a magnificent career which I hope goes off the rails should he decide to play in Boston.

Agreed. Before he got hurt he played everyday. He was a solid player. Now age and injuries decreased his production. He's still shows up everyday.

If the Red Sox get him the Yankees must counter fast.

Perhaps Johan Santana for Carl Pavano?

Solid player? After Bonds, he was the best offensive player in the National League over five seasons. His OPSs from 2000-2004 are staggering: 1.160, 1.115, 1.000, 1.088, 1.089. He has had two straight off years, but he's only 33. You put him around Ortiz and Manny and watch out.

If they get him, I think they win the division. They might win it anyway, considering their pitching staff, but in my mind this puts them over for sure.

Yes solid years. He carried the Rockies for years.

2 injured years in a row bumps you down to solid in my book. He still can be a great player. He has some good years left in him I assume.

Until you stay injury free he'll be moved from the solid player list.

Pavano will lead us to the promise land. No Worries

According to the Rockies owner Charlie Monfort, Todd Helton isn't going anywhere. I hope this is true and not just a negotiating ploy.

Danny, stay solid my man.

Everyone calm down. The deal is not getting done now.

This could turn into something during the season.

Rockies 15 games under .500 yet only 8 games back in the division. Seeing they can't make up any ground they decide to trade Helton and his big contract.

Red Sox 5 games out and needing spark to get back in the race need protection for Manny.

Red Sox offer a nice package of young players and take on a lot of Helton's contract.

Theo Epstein (a day after the trading deadline) is quoted as saying, "We planned this all along. We gave the Yankees false hope. Now they're toast."

Anyone else see this discussion happening again? Am I the only one?

He's a good player, but he's been hurt. More importantly, those numbers look better than they are because of where he played

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about. Helton was never hurt. He had two stints on the 15 DL with a calf and a stomach virus. He had surgery in the offseason and fully recovered. He never missed any substantial time.

Now, maybe, just maybe, he stopped taking steriods because of all the attention Bonds (and the league) was getting. That might be a cause of his significant offensive decline. Now tell me the germans are making watches, and you'll have my money.

Sorry for not being specific Joe. But there's no - Virus List. So he was put on the Disabled List.

The defintion of disabled is incapacitated by illness or injury. Oh and injury and hurt are synonyms so either is fine.

He would have been a nice addition to the Red Sox.

You're right Danno, he was put on the DL. But it wasn't a crippling injury like sheff's, where he missed 100 games.

And yes, we are lucky the sox didn't get him. Thank Jesus!

Helton would (will) fit in nicely in the number 5 spot.

I'm not convinced this won't come up later on in the season.

I will give you that it wasn't a crippling injury.

Where is everyone else's comments? Maybe it's time for some new?
